The Trebisnjica River, formerly one of the longest underground rivers in Europe, flows through Trebinje in Herzegovina. It is 98 kilometers long.
The Trebisnjica River flows through the Gatacko Polje, Cernicko Polje and Fatnicko Polje fields, where it sinks into the ground only to reappear south of Bileca. The part of this river also appears as a spring of the Ombla River in Dubrovnik, but its greatest part flows underground into the Neretva River.
Several very nice bridges span the Trebisnjica River. One of the attractions related to the Trebisnjica River is jumping from bridges. It takes place every summer, during July and August. The most famous Trebinje’s resorts are alongside the Trebisnjica River - Lastva, Jazina and Studenac, which offer possibilities for swimming, sunbathing, fishing and relaxation in nature.
