This 90 minute tour will introduce you to the very interesting history of this city and its inhabitants. Learn the story of the city’s founding and its growth.
Bihac is capital and a gravitational center of the Una-Sana Canton, the city that is situated on the Una River. The Una River has many natural beauties - such as the canyon, waterfalls and rapids, especially in the Bihac municipality. The area is rich with karst caves, flora and fauna and it is a rare example of ecologically completely saved biodiversity. The Una River was named by ancient Romans - Una means the one and only.
The first written proof of the existence of Bihac can be found in the charter of Hungarian-Croatian King Bela IV. The charter describes it as an existing town, so there is no doubt that it was founded even earlier. The Bihac municipality is located in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its relief is diverse, with fields, karst, hilly and mountain areas, with rich water flows and springs.
Bihac has recorded many events during 745-year-old existence, with deep traces in every stone of the old town walls. It is the town which has been living with the Una-River, which has given a life to it on the Saint Ladislav Island. The town is full of details that must be recorded. Natural beauties and the old town inspire many artists. Some of them come to discover a new detail; some of them come to exhibit. Visitors are strongly advised to try to organize their visits to Bihac in the period of cultural-artistic events, such as Bihac Summer – Festival of Performing-Theatrical Arts (in June), “Ulicom Bisca” – the cultural-artistic event (in November) and Days of the Una River – the cultural-artistic event (in May).
