The old town Vranduk with a settlement is located 10 kilometers from Zenica. It is situated on the left bank of the Bosna River.
The town was strategically built on a part of the land elongated like a peninsula, which goes down from the mountain side near the Bosna River. Vranduk was the door of the Bosnian Kingdom towards the northern area controlled by Hungarians. It had strategic importance in the Middle Age. After the Ottomans conquered this area, it was turned into a small merchant settlement between central and north Bosnia.
The name Vranduk was mentioned in 1410 for the first time. Its role was to control traffic from the Pannonian Plain through Bosnia and the Adriatic Sea.
Vranduk represents only one in a series of medieval Bosnian towns in this region. It consists of a citadel with the main tower and remains of walls that surrounded a medieval town.
